I've been a fan of Rockin' Jellybean's art for a number of years now, even
making the Erostika store in Harajuku a part of my 'must-go' itinerary when
visiting Tokyo a couple of years back. The artist known seems to be responsible for most of their designs, and he has a
pulp illustrative style that combines elements of cartoon art, 50's
monster movies, and exploitation films. The result is a highly colourful
and light-hearted mish mash of boobs, blades and exploitation tropes.
It
was therefore an inspired collaboration for him to produce this poster
art for a movie that shares similar themes. It has all the elements that
any connoisseur of Japanese grindhouse could ask for ... the babes, the
katana, blood and guns rolled together into a fantastic piece of
artwork.
While most movie posters are created by
dedicated design professionals specializing in movie poster art, its
rarer to see artwork produced by a successful independent artist. Fans
of this style should track this one down! It is available relatively
inexpensively as a Chirashi (see link at bottom of post), or the larger
version can be purchased directly on the Erostika website (partially English-friendly).
Note:
The chirashi itself is a 4-pager, advertising two "Yakuza Busting
Girls" movies - "Final Death Ride Battle", and "Duel in Hell".
